Planning your movement

Haulage frequently asked questions

Practical answers about quotes, bookings, specialist loads, containers, access, storage and delivery planning.

What customers usually need to know

Every movement is reviewed individually. These answers explain the usual process, but your written quote and booking confirmation will set out the exact service for your job.

Quotes and bookings

What services can you help arrange?

We assess requests for general haulage, plant and machinery transport, abnormal or specialist loads, container transport, and warehousing or distribution. Availability depends on the load, route, dates and operational requirements.

What information do you need for a quote?

Send the collection and delivery locations, preferred dates, load description, quantity, accurate dimensions and weight, loading and offloading arrangements, site access details and any deadline or specialist handling requirements. Photos or drawings are useful for unusual loads.

How is my haulage quote calculated?

Every quote is manually reviewed and priced for the individual job. The route, load size and weight, vehicle or equipment required, timing, access, handling and any additional services can all affect the price. We do not use a public fixed-rate calculator.

How quickly will I receive a quote?

That depends on the information supplied and the checks the movement requires. Straightforward requests can be assessed more quickly; specialist or abnormal loads may need further route, equipment or access checks before we can quote accurately.

When is a booking confirmed?

A booking is confirmed only when the service, price, dates and applicable terms have been agreed and you have received confirmation from us. A quote or initial discussion does not reserve capacity.

Can you arrange urgent or same-day haulage?

Tell us the deadline, route and full load details and we will check what may be available. Urgent and same-day work depends on suitable capacity and cannot be guaranteed.

Loads, access and specialist transport

What types of loads can you help move?

We can assess standard freight, palletised or full loads, plant and machinery, shipping containers and specialist or out-of-gauge cargo. Exact dimensions and weight are essential so the appropriate transport arrangement can be checked.

What site-access information should I provide?

Tell us about narrow roads, low bridges, gates, turning space, gradients, surface or ground conditions, height restrictions, delivery time windows and site contacts. Photos, measurements or a site plan can help identify constraints before booking.

Do you provide loading and unloading?

This depends on the load, sites and transport arrangement. Tell us what loading equipment is available at each end and whether you need lifting, offloading or positioning support. Your quote will state what is included.

Can you transport plant or machinery?

We can assess plant and machinery movements. Please provide the make and model or machine type, dimensions, weight, whether it runs or can be driven, loading method, collection and delivery access, and any lifting or installation requirement.

What counts as an abnormal load?

The classification depends on the combined load and vehicle dimensions and weight. If your cargo may be abnormal or out of gauge, provide measured dimensions and weight so the route and regulatory requirements can be reviewed properly.

Can route planning, notifications or escorts be arranged?

We can assess whether route checks, notifications, permits or escort arrangements may be required and confirm what can be included for the proposed movement. Requirements and lead times vary by load and route, and approvals cannot be guaranteed.

Containers, storage and delivery

What container details do you need?

Provide the container type and size, whether it is loaded or empty, gross weight, collection and delivery locations, required dates and any port, terminal or depot information. We will check the appropriate transport option for that unit.

Can you collect from a port or rail terminal?

We can assess port, rail-terminal and depot collections. Include the terminal or depot, container number and type, release details, collection window, booking information and any free-time or cut-off deadline.

Can a container be offloaded or positioned on site?

Transport and positioning are separate requirements. Tell us exactly where the container must be placed, the access and ground conditions, and whether lifting equipment is available. We will check whether a suitable arrangement can be made.

Can you help with storage or warehousing?

We can assess storage requests based on the cargo, quantity, dimensions, location, handling needs and required duration. Availability and the capabilities of any proposed facility must be confirmed for the individual request.

Can storage be combined with onward distribution?

Yes, we can review a combined requirement. Provide the full sequence, dates, quantities and destinations so transport, handling, storage and onward delivery can be assessed together.

Will I receive updates or live tracking?

The updates available depend on the confirmed transport arrangement. We will explain what status information can be provided for your booking; live tracking should only be expected when it has been specifically confirmed.

About the service

Does Haulage Company UK operate its own fleet?

Haulage Company UK provides a managed haulage service from quote through delivery. We select suitable professional transport providers, coordinate the booking and remain your main point of contact throughout the movement.

Where can you arrange collections and deliveries?

We handle requests across mainland Great Britain, subject to the route, load and suitable provider availability. Send both postcodes, plus any port, terminal or restricted-site details, so we can check the movement.

What insurance and liability terms apply?

The applicable cover and liability terms depend on the confirmed transport arrangement. Tell us the nature and value of the cargo and review the relevant terms before booking rather than assuming a universal level of cover.

What if my dates, load or route change?

Contact us as soon as possible. Changes can affect vehicle suitability, availability, route planning, price and any cancellation or amendment charges under the agreed terms.
